In the multi-billion pound fire, flood, and disaster restoration sector.
ServiceMaster was first established in the United States in 1929 as a small one man business in the Chicago area. The business had a carpet cleaning plant but introduced the innovation of cleaning carpets onsite at customer’s houses. Rapid growth followed over the next 20 years and in 1949 the Company began expanding across the USA through franchising.
ServiceMaster Clean® franchising was introduced to the UK in 1959 where the first businesses offered both carpet and upholstery cleaning services. Additional services such as disaster restoration, office cleaning (contract cleaning and commercial cleaning), furniture repairs and restoration (Furniture Medic®), domestic cleaning services (Merry Maids®), lawn care treatments (TruGreen®) and bookkeeping services (Rosemary®) were added over the next 45 years, and we now have over 700 franchise licenses established throughout Great Britain.
We are proud to be one of the seven founding companies of the British Franchise Association and fully subscribe to their Code of Ethics.
With our Head Office centrally located in Leicester and franchise locations across the country from The Highlands in Scotland to Cornwall and Norfolk to West Wales and Ireland, you are never far away from an Emergency Cleaning expert at ServiceMaster Restore.

ServiceMaster Restore have a collection of accreditation’s and affiliations to support our goal to deliver an exceptional level of service for the reactive cleaning requirements of our customers. As such we are accredited with the following:
We have operated the ServiceMaster Restore Franchise now for 12 years and with starting up the business in the recession we knew it was not going to be an easy start but with the help and support we received from the franchisor and local franchisees this made the journey at the start that little less daunting.
We had onsite training along with courses arranged by Head office which gave us great confidence going out in the field to serve our customers.
We have had our ups and downs in the business like many others may have but we feel over the years we have treated all aspects as a learning curve and are now seeking the rewards with the client data base we have built up along with the reputation which has now developed from the hard work our team has delivered time and time again.
On-going training and support is key and with the new centre of excellence introduced we feel that we are all working as a team with all involved within the centre of excellence. We are all learning new drying regimes which are required for the new building developments/constructions. We made a large investment into our business with new drying equipment along with training to implement this and this has seen our business grow and put us in good stead within the industry being able to offer the variety of drying services.
I bought my first franchise in 1986, following a career in the Insurance Industry.
The franchise appealed to me because of my desire to be my own boss, and control my own destiny.
In my dealings with ServiceMaster whilst I was considering my options, I was impressed with the general set up and the people I met and decided to buy the franchise.
Twenty-one years later, the business has developed almost beyond recognition, both for me personally, and for the business generally. Both franchisees and ServiceMaster Ltd have faced major challenges in recent years, and have met these challenges admirably. We are moving forward as a team, franchisee and franchisor together, and are set to enjoy continued growth in the coming years.
It is interesting to think that over the last 21 years, Jacqueline and myself have relied solely on our business for income and have built up a sizable equity within the business. Our youngest son has been involved in the business for some six years and will at some point take over the running of the operation.
To summarise, although running any business has its challenges, I feel that the franchise has, and continues, to fulfil our hopes and ambitions and we are proud to be associated with ServiceMaster Restore.

ServiceMaster Restore Rotherham
I’m usually out of the house driving towards South Yorkshire where I have my office. I make calls on the way and each day is different. You can be dealing with a fire one minute, a flood the next, or a void clean for a housing association after that.
This morning I was on phone to a gentleman who found his electrics had gone due to a build-up of raw sewage under his floor. It’s up to me and my team to clear out the sewage and clean up the aftermath.
This morning I went straight to site. This job involved meeting a plumber and builder to do some trace work and find out where the leak was coming from. The work involved hacking into the damp plaster to do readings and identify the cause, which was multiple leaks in the flat above. I will quote for the job and then later, hear back from the client to know whether this has been approved.
I arrive at my office and start going through the calls I have received that morning with my office manager. We will go through any emergency calls, some that will need answering straight away and others which can wait.
At this time I then receive a call from the client I met earlier from the sewage job who confirms the quotation has been approved. Due to the health and safety implications to this job, all work must be carried out tomorrow. At this point, it is ServiceMaster Restore’s responsibility to organise the operations and logistics required for the job. This ranges from the masks the workers have to wear to making sure the right equipment is available to carry out the job correctly.
Time for a late lunch and more paperwork. Like many of the other franchisees, I too have my own key performance indicators to meet and it is my responsibility to keep track of all jobs we do as a company. This includes uploading photos, listing detailed costings and giving reason to how all work is carried out.
I hope to be on my way home by this time, unless a major incident is called in and then I’m out on the road again.
